CARY, N.C. — Zoe Neuwirth just wouldn’t sleep. At 14 weeks old, her mother brought her to Itsy Bitsy Baby Spa for an infant massage class.

Instructors claim it helps babies sleep, helps their digestion and can soothe cranky, colicky babies.

Maureen Powell brought her son, 5-month-old Ryan, to help his torticollis, or a tightened muscle in his neck.

“I’m a working mom myself, so taking time out to have him just one-on-one and having that contact with him is so important. And learning techniques that will help him sleep better and alleviate pain is perfect,” she said.

Infant massage classes are offered for children 6 weeks old and up. The spa’s Web site lists the cost as $105 for five sessions.

"It improves circulation, strengthens immunity, enhances neurological development, and stimulates digestion, providing relief of gas and colic. It brings your baby to a state of quiet alertness," according to the spa's Web site.

Keren BenMoshe recently opened the baby spa. In addition to the baby massage class, the spa offers mommy and baby yoga, mommy and baby belly dance and other programs. For a full list of classes, click here.

BenMoshe said her goal is to keep moms and babies healthy.

“I looked for places like this when I had my children, and I couldn't find anything like it, so I decided to open up my own,” she said.
