DURHAM, N.C. — Investigators say a car parked Tuesday afternoon in Wellons Village Shopping Center on Raynor Street at Miami Boulevard matches a description given by young victims of attempted abductions in Durham.

An 11-year-old girl reported she was the victim of two attempts – occurring last week and Tuesday morning – near Landon and Hardee streets at about 7:30 a.m. while she was going to school, police said.

In both attempts, a man driving a bright red car pulled up to the girl and told her to get in the vehicle with him, police said. The girl refused and ran away.

Investigators said another girl has come forward describing a similar experience Tuesday afternoon. That girl's age and the location of the alleged attempted abduction was not released.

The 11-year-old girl described the attempted abductor's car as compact with a blue vanity plate on the front that read “Fear This.” The car had a North Carolina license plate with a possible registration of VMF-7910.

Authorities said the car in the Wellons Village Shopping Center parking lot closely matches the license plate and vanity plate given by the girl.

The man police are looking for is described as Hispanic with a dark complexion and a thin-build. He had no facial hair and he spoke to the girl in Spanish, police said. He appeared to be coming from the Cheek Road area.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to contact investigators at 919-560-4281, ext. 228 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
