HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — A Durham County man kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and fatally shot a man at his Orange County home on Christmas afternoon, deputies said.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office received calls about shots fired at 3303 New Sharon Church Road at 5:36 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found Randall Allen Standiffer and Diana Seagroves Koutsis standing in the woods beside the driveway.

Deputies said Koutsis demanded Standiffer tell what he had done as they approached the two.

Standiffer, 50, of 7035 Kiger Road, Rougemont, came to the New Sharon Church Road home and kicked open the door. He then shot and killed A. Jeffrey Lee Walton, 50, deputies said.

Standiffer then forced Koutsis out of the house at gunpoint and led her to his truck, which was parked on the edge of the woods along New Sharon Church Road, officials said.

Investigators said Standiffer was motivated to commit the shooting, because Koutsis recently broke up with him.

Deputies arrested Standiffer and charged him with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was being held without bond in the Orange County Jail.
