Agency Selected for State Highway Patrol Review
The state Department of Crime Control and Public Safety selected an agency to conduct an in-depth review of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Kroll, an international risk consulting company, will conduct the review ordered by Gov. Mike Easley earlier this fall after several troopers resigned or were fired for misconduct. The company will be paid $98,000 for the review.
As part of the review process, a consulting team will meet with the patrol's senior leaders, sworn officers and civilian employees. The consultants will look at hiring, training and promoting policies within the agency.
Kroll is expected to submit a written report of its findings to the department within four months.
“We welcome a thorough internal review by an agency that is experienced and respected in the law enforcement and corporate communities,” Col. Fletcher Clay, the commander of the Highway Patrol, said in a statement. “We look forward to hearing Kroll’s recommendations for how we can more efficiently and effectively serve the citizens of North Carolina.”
The company has conducted similar reviews for law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles and Detroit.
