DURHAM, N.C. — An overturned tractor-trailer forced the closure of all four lanes of Interstate 85 South in Durham for a time Thursday night.

Durham officials said the driver of a tractor-trailer going north on I-85 near Guess Road lost control of his vehicle shortly after 6:30 p.m.

The tractor-trailer hit the median barriers, causing it to fall over the barriers and overturn in the southbound lanes. Two other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Duke University Hospital.

The Durham Fire Department was called out to handle a diesel fuel spill.

All four southbound lanes of I-85 were closed between the Duke Street and Guess Road exits while emergency personnel handled the accident. The state Department of Transportation announced shortly before 9:30 that one of the lanes had been reopened as firefighters cleaned up the scene.

All northbound lanes remained opened.

City officials said it was too early tell Thursday evening if charges will be filed in the accident.
