Application Fees Waived for Students Applying Online to College
For the next week, high school seniors can apply online to certain North Carolina colleges and universities through the College Foundation's Web site for free.
Posted — UpdatedApplication fees to 27 colleges and universities and all 58 community colleges across the state will be waived until Friday during North Carolina College Application Week. The goal is to provide all high school seniors statewide the opportunity to apply to college online using the Web site of the College Foundation of North Carolina.
"This is a golden opportunity for the high school senior who needs that final nudge of encouragement to apply and find out that college really is possible," said Steve Brooks, executive director of the N.C. State Education Assistance Authority.
"We hope all students, whether they are in middle school or high school, are planning for college because North Carolina makes it possible for everyone, and there is a college to fit the need of every high school graduate," said Bobby Kanoy, senior associate vice president for academic and student affairs for The University of North Carolina.
In 2006, 14 high schools participated in the event with 900 students submitting college applications online. This year, more than 100 high schools are participating in the program.
Officials said College Application Week will be a statewide effort by 2008.
