Boy Hit by Vehicle Identified
Raleigh police have identified a boy who was struck by a vehicle on Rock Quarry Road between Barwell and New Hope roads at about 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
Posted — UpdatedTristin Brown, 11, of Raleigh, was walking with traffic northwest along Rock Quarry Road when he struck by Ford pick-up truck. The boy was thrown 16 feet by the impact, according to the accident report.
Tristin suffered serious injuries and was taken to WakeMed. He remained in the intensive-care unit on early Sunday morning, hospital officials said.
The driver, David Ray Daughtry, 25, of Raleigh, could not see Tristin, because the boy was wearing a black t-shirt and dark jeans, police said. Daughtry was traveling at the posted speed limit.
Raleigh police officers and detectives canvassed the surrounding area following the accident but were unable to immediately locate family members.
Tristin's family contacted police after learning of the accident while watching the local news. Authorities said the boy had apparently run away from home.
Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said there are no plans to file charges in the accident.
