Body Recovered From Harnett County Pond
Harnett County authorities recovered a man's body from a pond Thursday afternoon after searching for nearly three hours.
Posted — UpdatedFUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Harnett County authorities recovered a Spring Lake man's body from a pond Thursday afternoon after searching for nearly three hours.
The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office received a call at about 12:15 p.m. about a possible drowning in a three- to four-acre farm pond off Chalybeate Road.
John Thomas Richardson, 73, of 710 Barnes Drive in Spring Lake, and Clifton Luis Allen, 42, of Cameron, were fishing in a small boat when the boat capsized, authorities said. Allen was able to swim to the edge of the pond, but Richardson couldn't make it, authortiies said.
Harnett County deputies, the Angier Fire Department, Harnett County EMS, the Northwest Fire Department, the Harnett County Dive Team and Harnett County Emergency Management were involved in the search and recovery effort.
