13 Arrests Made in Chapel Hill Halloween Bash
It was not all fun and games on Franklin Street, but there were fewer than half as many arrests as last year.
Posted — UpdatedNearly 82,000 revelers headed out to Franklin Street and surrounding areas Wednesday evening for the ghoulish festivities.
Police cleared the streets were cleared of people shortly before 3 a.m. and opened them to traffic at around 4 a.m., after town crews had cleaned up debris.
Chapel Hill police set up a perimeter to keep the party in one area. More than 400 law enforcement officers lined Franklin Street.
Orange County Emergency Medical Services responded to 31 calls and took eight people to UNC Hospitals. EMS workers said 21 of the calls were related to intoxication.
Last year, an estimated 70,000 people showed up for the Halloween celebration. Twenty-seven people were arrested or cited then.
