Museums Merge For Space, Money Reasons
RALEIGH, N.C. — The merger of two Wake County children's museums will be complete when they open under one name on Saturday.

A grand opening celebration will be held for the merger of the former Exploris and Playspace museums at 201 Hargett St. in downtown Raleigh. The free celebration, featuring children's bands, clowns, magicians and other performers, will run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The name of the new children's museum will be announced at that time.

The museum will be housed in the 83,000-sq-ft old home of Exploris and will feature interactive exhibits.

Before the merger, Exploris struggled with attendance numbers and extra space, while Playspace sometimes had to close because the number of visitors exceeded its fire code limit of 300 people.
