FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities on Friday were back at the site of a fatal house fire, trying to determine both the cause of the Thursday fire and the cause of death of a man inside.

Firefighters were called to the house at 404 Durant Drive, a few blocks south of the intersection of Raeford and Skibo roads, at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. They discovered a man's body inside the house after putting out the fire.

Authorities haven't identified the man, other than to say he was in his 20s. They also haven't released information about where the body was found inside the house.

The origin of the fire has been determined to be suspicious, authorities said. Arson investigators from the Fayetteville Police Department, the State Bureau of Investigation, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the FBI were investigating the cause Friday.

The man had been renting the house for about a year, according to the landlord.

Co-workers said the man didn't show up for work Thursday, and they couldn't contact him by phone.
