Raleigh police filed charges on Monday against the driver in a wreck at a Raleigh bus stop that killed one man and injured another.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police filed charges Monday against the driver in a wreck at a bus stop that killed one man and injured another.

Jason Daniel Oliver, 28, of 105 E. Delafield Ave., Durham, is charged with second-degree murder, felony aggravated assault, driving-while-impaired and driving with a revoked license.

Police said Oliver was also driving while consuming alcohol and had an open container of alcohol in the car.

In addition to those offenses, police also charged Oliver with possession of drug paraphernalia and simple possession of marijuana.

Oliver, who was injured in the accident, has been released from WakeMed and taken to the Wake County jail, where he's being held without bond on the murder charge, officers said. He is expected to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses told police that Oliver was driving in a reckless manner while traveling down Buck Jones Road, near Bashford Road, around 5:30 p.m. Friday. Oliver lost control of his car and was going 65 mph when he hit two men standing on the grass while waiting for the bus.

Jesus Gonzales Garcia, 33, died at the scene, and Walter Rodriguez Garcia, 23, was critically injured.

Oliver was sentenced to 91 days in jail for a previous DWI in October 2002 in Vance County. His license was revoked then, and he was also fined $300 and given 18 months probation, according to court records.

He was cited for driving on a revoked license in April 1999 and operating a motor vehicle without a license in April 1995.

Court records show that Oliver had an extensive criminal record, dating back to April 1995. Authorities filed 23 charges against him, mostly in Durham and Vance and Craven counties.

Oliver has also faced charges for assault, counterfeiting and drug offenses.
