RALEIGH — Some workers on the new Centennial Arena inwest Raleigh are facing a holiday season without the paychecks they've earned.

About 30 steelworkers hired by the Stacey Construction Company from theAsheville area have been told they won't be paid by Stacey for their lasttwo weeks' work.

Construction worker Bobby Page said that when the workers calledthe company on several days to inquire aboutgetting paid, they were assured that checks would be issued -- and thenfinally an office worker told them the company had gone out of business.

Many of the workers have now been hired on by other crews at the site.

The project's construction manager said he thinks the men willeventually be paid forthe time they worked for Stacey.

The missed payroll is not expected to have any effect on the project'sschedule.
