Resident Maura Cunningham says after neighbors realized the severity ofwhat could happen, they took the situation seriously.
It took approximately 14 hours for emergency workers to pump explosive propane out of the tanker, and to reopen the affected section of Highway55.
The accident happened around 6 p.m. near the intersectionof Highways 64 and 55. The truck ran off of a newly-paved portionof the road and turned over when Danny Wright tried to get back on thehighway. He was not seriously injured.
However, Wright says the reason he crashed was because he was unawarethe road was about to narrow. DOT officials say they know nothing aboutthe lack of a sign in the area. Cunningham believes Wright'sobservation is right.
Cunningham's husband, Dennis, is surprised there hasn't been an accidentbefore now. He says it's so dark, you'd never know you were about to gooff the road.
