Here Comes Santa Claus

RALEIGH — Raleigh's Hit Parade today can be seen as amix of "Strike Up the Band" and "Here Comes Santa Claus' -- because thecity's 53rd Christmas parade gets under way at 10. Doug E. Doug of theCBS-TV sitcom "Cosby" is marshal of the 1.2 mile parade. You can watchall of it live on WRAL-TV5.

Lucky for the 23 bands, 46 floats, all the other marchers and for Santaand his reindeer, temperatures will be moving towards 60, and the rainthat poured overnight has moved on.

Doug spent Friday visiting Kidworks Child Care Center, where he readthe children a story. Doug is an old hand when it comes to kids -- he is aregular volunteer at a day care center in his native Brooklyn, New York.

The holiday extravaganza is expected to last about two hours. The 1.2mile route begins on Hillsborough Street at St. Mary's Street. AtSalisbury Street, it makes a right turn and then ends at Lenoir Street,just past the Raleigh Civic Center.
