Others in the motel where the alleged crime occurred said they had noindication there was any problem within the family. In fact, Harshad Patelwho manages the motel said he didn't even know the couple had a child.There were two children with the couple. The woman charged with killingone of them was the mother of both. Police say the woman is originallyfrom Wilson.
Police say it appears that the child was being punished for somethingand that the punishment got out of hand. They say they believe, judgingfrom marks on the children's bodies, this was not the first timeabuse has occurred within the family.
Police say they have been unable to find much information on the coupleyet, given their current transient status. They did say they know of norecord of trouble while the couple was in Raleigh.
