For the sixth year, UNC Hospitals has staged its "Celebration ofLife" for former patients in its North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center.

The reunion enables people to share their individual stories ofsurvival and it gives inspiration to current patients.

The eventalso enables patients and families to thank the health care teams thatmade survival possible.

Given the high risk area in which they work on a daily basis, burncenter staff also benefit from the reunion; it affirms that while losing apatient is heartbreaking they can also look to many successes.

Those who come back to the burn center are ready to praise the staff.

One patient, James R. Pointer, had been burned over 80 percent of hisbody. He credits the care he got with helping him relearn how to do dailytasks, get out in public and resume his life.

In addition to getting reacquainted, the hospital's guests had lunchand toured the center.
