SANFORD, N.C. — A 13-year-old boy was arrested late Wednesday and charged with murder after a woman was found shot to death in her Lee County home, authorities said.

The body of Piedad Visoso, 33, was found at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in her mobile home at 63 Frances Louise Lane, located near the intersection of Lee Avenue and St. Andrews Church Road south of Sanford, authorities said. Visoso's boyfriend found her body when he returned home from work, authorities said.

Visoso was three months pregnant, and her 18-month-old daughter also was in the home at the time, authorities said. The toddler was unharmed, they said.

The 13-year-old boy was arrested a few hours later and charged with first-degree murder, authorities said.

"He was found close to the residence where he's actually supposed to live," Lee County Sheriff Tracy Carter said.

Carter described the boy as an acquaintance of Visoso who had lived off and on with her and her boyfriend and had been staying in the mobile home for several days.

"We don't really have a motive (for the shooting) at this time," Carter said, adding that investigators have recovered a handgun that they believe was used in the slaying.

It's too early to determine if the boy will be tried as an adult in the case, authorities said.

Neighbor Dorothy Thompson said she was shocked not only by Visoso's death, but also by the age of the suspect.

"That is just so horrible," Thompson said. "They were the quietest people."
