Teen Driver Kills Toddler

CHAPEL HILL — A 3-year-old girl died Saturday night after she was hit by a neighbor's car.

Cyntrelle Foushee, daughter of Cynthia and Ira Foushee, was standing inthe parking lot in front of her home when the accident occurred.

Officials said the vehicle was driven by a teen-ager, whose mother wasin the car. The age of the driver is unclear; some sources put her age at16, others at 14.

The accident occurred at 8:40 p.m. Initial reports indicated the drivermay have mistaken the accelerator for brake pedal.

That's the way Ira Foushee described the accident occurring, as hepointed out the path the car took across the grass and into a patio areaof the apartments.

Both families live in an apartment complex at 300Estes Drive.

Cyntrelle would have been 4 years old this coming Wednesday.Her mother described her as giving great joy, with a smile for everyoneand loved by many people.

The tragedy came one day before the couple planned to be married.Cyntrelle was to have been their flower girl at the ceremony. TheFoushees decided to go ahead with the wedding at a local church and with areception for 30 people afterwards, saying that was what Cyntrelle hadbeen looking forward to so much. Lighting a candle in their daughter'smemory, the couple chose "I'm Still Holding On," as part of their weddingmusic.
