LILLINGTON — Pet store owner Audrey Collins was arrested and charged with animalabuse after investigators found more than 30 dead animals in her house. Her former partner took all the birds that survived, and wants to rescueall the dogs that were placed in an area animal shelter.

The cost of rescuing all the dogs is $1400. County officials said the dogswill be put to sleep if the fee is not paid.

"That makes no sense," said Gayle Jackson, former employee. "There are alot of people that will adopt these dogs. They're good dogs up there. Theydon't deserve to die because Faircloth wants a boarding fee."

Audrey Collins is scheduled to go back to court next Thursday.
