DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police have arrested and charged a teenager with the shooting of four people in two incidents Monday night.

Investigators charged Anthony Doberson, 19, of Gibson Road, with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Monday, police responded to a shooting in the 600 block of Gray Avenue. Three males – two 17-year-olds and one 19-year-old – were shot in the legs, investigators said. Two victims were treated at the scene and one was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment.

According to witnesses at the scene, an older-model burgundy and gray van came down the street and turned around. As the van passed the victims, an occupant opened the van’s sliding door and started shooting, police said.

Fifteen minutes later, police said a 19-year-old male was shot in the leg in the 1300 block of Fidelity Drive. Investigators said someone got out of a burgundy and gray van and fired several shots at the victim, who was taken to Duke for treatment.

Minutes after that shooting, Durham police Officer C.T. Skarzynski saw a burgundy and gray van on Hardee Street and stopped it on Liberty Street. Doberson, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody. Police said several other occupants jumped from the van and ran.

Doberson was held in the Durham County Jail on $250,000 bond.
