Ryan, a fifth-year cancer survivor, knows the ravages of cancer all toowell. Ten years ago, she lost a brother to the disease. Another brotherdied of cancer just a year-and-a-half ago.
This weekend, the frontline of Ryan's battle against cancer moved tothe Prestonwood Country Club in Cary. There, thousands of people turnedout at the Jimmy V. Classic -- the V Foundation's major fundraiser forcancer research -- to lend their support in the fight againstcancer. For Ryan, her time as a Classic volunteer is a labor oflove.
Everlena Murphy is Ryan's good friend and nurse. Murphy has joined Ryanas a volunteer at the classic for the past four years. For her, the timeand energy she devotes to the cause is all about sharing and caring.
Murphy's says that sharing and caring can make life easier for thosesurvivng cancer. The message of survival is what Pam Valvanowants to hear. The widow of the Foundation's namesake wants to make surethat those suffering from the disease know that they will not rest until acure has been found.
Until a cure is found, Valarie Ryan says that she will be at the Jimmy V.Classic every year.
Since the V Foundation started, they have raised over$4 million -- 74% of that goes directly to cancer research.
