Mother: Others Also to Blame for Day Care Death

RALEIGH — The mother of a seven-year-old child charged in connection with a baby'sdeath is finally speaking out. Cassandra Silver says the owner of theunlicensed daycare where the baby died is at fault, and not her son.

Silver also wants officers to investigate whether another child couldbe to blame.

Silver said her son doesn't understand what is happening.

Silver's seven year old faces a juvenile petition for voluntarymanslaughter in 4-month-old Bailey Tippett's death. Bailey died in the unlicensed daycare run by Tracy Stidham.

"The father came over and talked to us and told us that Nicholas had beenin the room with the baby and that he admitted to dropping the baby." saidStidham.

Stidham's interview with WRAL last week angered Cassandra Silver.

Silver also says Stidham's 12-year-old daughter shares the blame.

The truth in this case may remain sealed in the juvenile justice system.

The 7-year-old still lives across the street from the unlicensed day care.He attended school Monday and will enter counseling. Stidham has a courtdate next month.
