Inmate Escapes from Lexington Prison

LEXINGTON — There has been yet another case oflax security in a North Carolina prison. Tuesday, an inmate escaped fromthe Davidson Correctional Center in Lexington.

Charles McIver got away while on work detail for the department of transportation. Officials say there were no correctional officers on duty,and the inmates were not shackled at the time of the escape.

McIver was serving a five-year sentence for taking indecent libertieswith a minor. He was found and captured in Durham Wednesday.

Meanwhile, three jailers in Cumberland County have been formallyreprimanded in connection with the escape of two prisoners early lastweek. Authorities caught the inmates and put them back behind bars. The Cumberland County sheriff is planning new security measures.
