Durham CrimeStoppers To Reward Information on Illegal Weapons

Posted Updated

DURHAM — Durham Crimestoppers and the CCB Foundation are starting a programto reward people who turn in others who carry illegalweapons.

If the weapon is found and the suspect is convicted, the tipster gets $100. A $10,000 grant from CCB will pay for the program.

Organizers hope the program will help get guns off the streets. Theyalso think it will be more effective than gun buy-back programs, whichpays people to turn in weapons, though not necessarily weapons used tocommit crimes or weapons that were illegally owned.im
