Former Dropouts Wear Caps and Gowns at Last

CLINTON — A group of high-risk high school dropoutswrapped up what's called the Tarheel Challenge Friday with a long overdue graduation ceremony in Clinton.

The challenge wasn't simply to walk away with a high-school education, it was also an effort to change their lives.The graduates were part of the Tarheel Challenge, a program established tohelp high-risk, high school dropouts. The program was at one timethreatened with the loss of funds but, fortunately for these graduates,the federal government did come through with money.
