High Winds, Lightning Cause Trouble in the Triangle

RALEIGH — Fierce storms blew through central North Carolina Wednesday afternoon,sparking two fires and closing down a small section of Interstate 85 nearHenderson.

High winds helped to fan the flames at one Durham home where lightningstruck. No one was hurt. After making its way through Durham County,the storm issued another lightning strike that took a Wake County homeby surprise. Witnesses say flames erupted from the house just secondsafter a huge flash lit up the sky.

It wasn't lightning, but some wild winds that shut down part ofInterstate-85. A great gust blew the roof off a storage building and intothe middle of the highway. The entire road was blocked for more thanan hour while crews cleaned up the debris.
