Police Negotiating with Gunman in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE — Fayetteville police continued tonegotiate with a man holed up in a downtown Fayetteville blood donationcenter Monday night.

The unidentified man was holding off police in the Alpha Plasma Center onFranklin Street. According to witnesses, the man has fired two shots. Noone has been injured and the gunman has no hostages.

Police have cordoned off a block downtown as they peacefully negotiatewith the man from across the street.

The incident started between 2 and 3 p.m. when aCumberland County Sheriff'sdeputy attempted to servepapers on the man in connection with a domestic dispute. That's whenthe man brandished a handgun, the deputy backed away, and the standoff began.

At last report, police were continuing negotiations, hoping to guide thesituation to a peaceful end.
