Jazz and blues will ringout Sunday from four stages. More than 140 artists are featured atthe Artist's Market. Wherever you go, you're bound to run into a uniquesight or sound.

One feature of "Artsplosure" attracting special attention is this year'slogo. Raleigh city officials may have gotten more than they bargained forwhenthey approved a rendering of the Greek goddess Persephone to represent theweek of cultural cuisine. Logo designer Louis St. Lewis says he createdthegoddess in his own image as a drag queen. St. Lewis says he intended hisdesign as a jab at conservative Raleigh mayor Tom Fetzer and the CityCouncil for their recent crackdown on cross-dressing at a downtownnightclub.

The week's fun actually began Tuesday, when the Capital City came alivewitha free lunch-time concert by the Orange High School Jazz Ensemble. Otherensembles also entertained throughout the week.

"Artsplosure" is being staged on the Fayetteville Street Mall. Sunday'sactivities will go on until nearly sundown. It'san event you won't want to miss.
