WELDON — An 88-year-old Halifax County woman wasattacked in her home over the weekend.
Helen Sechler was using the telephone inside her Weldon home whensomeone broke in and beat her, then slashed her throat. Some articles weretaken from the house.
She has been taken to Duke University Medical Center for treatment. Sheremains in critical condition.
Neighbors say Sechler is special to many people in the small town. Theyexpressed shock at the attack.
No arrest has been made and police will not speculate on a possiblemotive.
