Gregory Gibson was only 13-years-old when he was convicted of beating a 90-year-old woman to death with a hammer in 1992. At that time, hisidentity was protected and, in compliance with state law, he was committedto a training school. He was released on his 18th birthday and his recordwas cleared.
Since his release, he has been charged with trespassing, assault,attempting to steal a car and, most recently, possession of stolen goods.A female accomplice was also charged in the most recent crime.
Annie Wheeler was a neighbor of Mary Haddon at the time of her death.She says she's upset, but not surprised at what Gibson is up to now.
Most of Wheeler's neighbors still worry about what happened five yearsago and say they hope it never happens there again.
Gibson is now out on bond. State law has changed, partly because of his1992 crime. The law now allows 13-year-olds to be charged as adults whenthe crime they commit warrants it.
