New Retirement Community Opens in Raleigh

RALEIGH — Low income elderly residents now have a newplace they can call home in Raleigh. Governor Hunt attended Thursday'sgrand opening of The Magnolias, a 40-unit retirement community.

Apartments will rent for around $360 per month. Developers say thecomplex provides quality independent living for the elderly, a luxury oncereserved for more affluent retirees.

Bessie Alston, a new resident of The Magnolias, says this type of placehas been needed for a long time.

The property is modeled after another retirement community that earneda Housing North Carolina award.
