Wake County Student Charged with Rape of Classmate

RALEIGH — A 16-year-old Wake Forest-Rolesville studentis in jail, charged with raping a 14-year-old classmate in the school onTuesday.

Authorities have charged Kelly Lamont Mitchell with second-degree rape.He is being held in the Wake County jail.

According to investigators, Mitchell forced a 14-year-old girl to havesex with him Tuesday in a faculty restroom while other students stoodoutside the door.

Captain T.S. Matthews of the Wake County Sheriff's Department says themale students involved are not all telling the same story.

Deputies say there were three classes in session in thevocational building at thetime of the alleged atack, but that no one heard anything.

Mitchell says it was consensual sex. Other students said Mitchellhad dated his alleged victim in the past.

School Principal Robert Winston says whether the sex was consensual ornot, it was not appropriate behavior for school.

Winston said the incident concerns everyone at the school, but that itwas an isolated occurrence and should not make parents worry thatstudents are running wild.

No other charges have been filed against the students outside thebathroom, authorities said, because the door was locked.
