RALEIGH — Recent weather conditions around the Triangleare creating a growing risk of brushfires, and firefighters saidleftover fallen trees from Hurricane Fran make the fire risk worse.
Nash County Assistant Fire Marshall Scott Rogers said everything frombroken power lines to yard fires could be big problems.
Downed trees are the main fire risk and this season the risk is higher.Thousands of trees from Hurricane Fran have formed have formed a flammableblanket across North Carolina's forests. Charles Wood, who works with theN.C. Forest Service said the brush not only gives fires the fuel they needto start, it also slows attempts to stop the fire.
No burn restrictions are in effect now, but firefighters are asking thosewho plan to burn in their yards to be careful.
