<b>CHAPEL HILL</b> — The case of a University of North Carolina student accused of contributing to his girlfriend's fall down anelevator shaft has been continued.

Police charged Thomas Suddarth with assault in January after he pushedEvelyn Bankov against the elevator doors in Granville Towers with suchforce that the doors opened, sending her plunging six stories down theshaft.

Bankov's injuries were not life-threatening. Granville Towers is aprivate residence hall in Chapel Hill.
