Minority Test Scores Prompt Action

RALEIGH — Some disappointing test scores achieved byminority students are prompting action in North Carolina. A day-longsummit is scheduled for March to address the problem.

Scores show only 36 percent of minority students scored at or abovegrade level in grades 3 - 8. That compares to 70 percent of whitestudents.

Of particular concern are black males, of whom only 31 percent reachedor exceeded grade level.
