Hunt, a Democrat, will begin serving an unprecedented fourth term asgovernor. His first two terms spanned 1977 - 1984. His next turn in thegovernor's mansion began in 1993.
Friday night he and his wife, Carolyn, attended the four galas aroundthe city, each staged by the Junior League. Each site focused on a seasonof the year. Carolina crabcakes, pasta and carving stations, crab andcheese tarts, mushroom strudel and raw vegetables were among the fare onlong buffet tables. The 2500 invitation-only guests were in tuxes andglittering gowns, ready to celebrate.
Saturday, the parade wound up the festivities. It beganabout 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Wilmington and Lane Streets and finished at the intersection of Salisbury and Lane.
Among those participating were 25 bands, 15 community floats,dignitaries, special units and elected officials.
Spectators and marchers alike had to dress warmly.WRAL-TV5 Weather Center's Chris Thompson said the Saturday windchill wouldbe 20 at the warmest point. And the high for Saturday in the Triangle waspegged only near 40.
