Maximum Sentence Handed Down for Mascot Killing

CHAPEL HILL — A Chapel Hill man received the maximumsentence for killing a ram that was the mascot of the University of NorthCarolina.

Scott Wade was charged with cruelty to animals after he slaughteredthe ram known as Ramses last February. Wednesday, he received a 45 daysuspended sentence, including 18 months of supervised probation and 160hours of community service.

Wade will also have to attend substance abuse classes, undergo apsychiatric analysis, and pay almost $1,000 in fines and fees.
