Fort Bragg M.P. Foils Would-Be Robber

FAYETTEVILLE — An armed robbery suspect ishospitalized after a run-in with a Fort Bragg M.P.

The soldier was off-duty when he pulled up to an Automated TellerMachine at Morganton and Reilly Roads in Fayetteville. He says he fearsfor his safety, and asked not to be identified.

He was approached at the ATM by the suspect who was brandishing ahandgun. The soldier says he ducked down in his car and attempted to driveaway, but could not maneuver the vehicle. He says he then opened fire,hitting the would-be robber in the neck.

Dedric Stevens, who is in stable condition, faces several possiblecharges, including armed robbery.
