ROXBORO — About 10 a.m. Saturday, reports from Personand Wayne Counties indicated that small private planes had crashed in eachcounty, possibly within minutes of each other.
The Person County crash is reported in the Timberlake area, off TomOakley Road. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed thattwo people died in that accident.
The other crash occurred near Seymour Johnson Air Force Base outsideGoldsboro. That accident site was identified as Highway 111 South, offColonial Avenue. Reports now indicate the plane had been runningout of fuel and the pilot was trying to land at the base, but crashedbefore he reached it. It's believed the pilot died in the accident.There has been no word yet whether there were passengers on board.
