Second School Bus Accident in Two Days

CLAYTON — The second Johnston County school busaccident in as many days occurred Wednesday morning when the driver of ablue Firebird says fog made it impossible to see the bus. Another accidentTuesday morning happened at the same intersection.

Jeremy Sherron, 18, says he stopped at the intersection, didn't seeanything coming, and proceeded through.

Troopers agree that Sherronstopped as required, but it wasn't enough. His car struck Johnston Countyschool bus 136 which was carrying 13 students bound for Clayton Middle andHigh schools.

Three students complained of injuries and were taken to JohnstonMemorial Hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be serious. TheHighway Patrol cleared the intersection and a back-up bus was brought totake the remaining students to school.

Some parents say they're upset. Donita Brown says the intersection isdangerous.

Sherron says he would like to see a traffic light at theintersection, because he never saw the bus coming. He has been chargedwith failure to yield.
