Police arrested Vincent T. Hall, 22, on charges of killing and tryingto rob a clerk at the Mission Valley Blockbuster video store in January 1994.Police Hall was a N.C. State student at the timeof the killing. Police had been working for about six months to build acase against Hall, who was serving a 10-year sentence in a state prison inHarnett County for robbing afast-food restaurant in Fayetteville in late 1994.
Raleigh police Sgt. Ken Sholar (pictured at right) said detectives had beenwaiting for a longtime to make this arrest.
Kier Lohbeck (pictured at left), 20, was shot to death about 1 a.m.on a cold January night in the MissionValley shoppingcenter parking lot as he left work after closing the Blockbuster store.Another clerk, who asked only to be referred to as Catherine (picturedbelow, right), left thestore with Lohbeck and witnessed the crime from her car as she waited for her car windows to defrost. She tells WRAL-TV5 News thatthe arrest ends a long ordeal for her.
Hall is charged with first-degree murder and attempted robbery. He isschedule to make his first appearance in Wake District Court at 2 p.m.today.
Hall was transferred from the Harnett County prison to the RaleighPolice Department about noon. His only public comment was "not guilty" ashe was led in shackles past news photographers to the Wake County jail.
Blockbuster had offered a $50,000 reward after the Lohbeck slaying tohelp generate leads for police.
