BROADWAY — A fire was reported about 6 a.m.Saturday in the cafeteria of Broadway Elementary School. Firefightersfrom a total of four nearby areas managed to contain the blaze within 25minutes.
The school is on Main Street, off old 421 in Lee County.
Because state property is involved, the State Bureau of Investigationhas been called in. So far there are no signs of foul play. The firemight have originated in electrical equipment in the cafeteria. Thecafeteria floor and furnishings were heavily damaged.
The firefighters that responded were from Sanford, Lemon Springs,Carolina Trace and Boone Trail.
It will be school as usual for the students. Administrators say theywill arrange to have lunch brought in.
