Man Charged in 3 Rapes from 1989

FAYETTEVILLE — Charles G. Willenbring, who turnedhimself in to police Friday, has been charged with two counts offirst-degree rape, two counts of first-degree burglary, and three countsof first degree sex offense. The Cumberland County sheriff's office willalso be charging Willenbring, according to a news release, and theinvestigation continues.

The crimes allegedly date to 1989. According to records, Willenbring,33, confessed to the crimes.

Magistrate's records indicate that Willenbring may also face akidnapping charge, and that he is a suspect in three rapes in Virginia.

Willenbring, who lives at 3005 Rouse Drive, turned himself in about6:30 p.m. His first court appearance will be Nov. 4 at 9 a.m. in districtcourt.

The break-ins occurred while the women were asleep. One victim told police that she was staying at the apartment of a friend who was awayfor the weekend, when she was raped in a Ramsey Street apartment onApril 10, 1989. She said she awakened to find a man in the room. Shesaid hemade her go to another room, where he raped her.

Two other rape victims lived in apartments on Tradewinds Drive. Onewoman reported that a man broke into her home on June 3, 1989, hit her onthe head, choked her and then raped her. Another woman said a man enteredher apartment by wayof a broken window on July 23, 1989 and forced her to have sex atknifepoint.

Willenbring was jailed, with bail seto at $125,000.
