Posted Updated

DURHAM — The Christmas card you choose could helpsick children get medical treatment.

This is the 15th year of the Christmas card campaign to benefit DukeChildren's Hospital. The campaign has raised $400,000 to fund programs andmedical research for chronically ill children.

Perhaps the best thing about the cards is that, as always, children arethe artists. Four out of an original 100 young aspiring artists have beenselected to see their creations in print. A kick-off campaign Fridayplaced the young artists at center stage.

What it's all about is kids helping kids by creating the cards thatraise money to fund facilities like the bone marrow transplant unit or tobuy new toys for pediatric "safe rooms".

Patients get the best medical care available anywhere in thesefacilities, as long as the telethons and card campaigns keep the moneycoming in, and the artists think that's the best part ... even better thanall the attention they're getting.

The cards are available at Harris Teeter stores in packs of 24 for $10each.
