DURHAM — Green scrubs were cast off Thursday in thepediatric unit at Duke University Hospital. The uniform of the day wasmuch stranger than usual.

A Dalmation, while not usually allowed inside the hospital, was allowedto roam freely, as was a large, colorful pumpkin.

Meanwhile, hordes of last-minute shoppers crowded into local costumestores in Raleigh, as trick-or-treat wannabes snapped up everything fromscary wardrobes to wild wigs.

Since this is an election year, President Clinton, George Bush andformer President Ronald Reagan masks were hot items.
