FAYETTEVILLE — There is some flap over how the American flag is being displayed at two Fayetteville businesses.
Last week, a city inspector asked two car dealerships to remove flags from their lots. According to Fayetteville's city code, banners, balloons, official and unofficial flags cannot be attached to items on sale.
Inspectors say removing the flags is not their top priority right now.
"We have to do a job and that's the part we hate. We support our country as much as anyone else, and that part of the ordinance we do not want to support at this time," says Jim Alexander, assistant director of inspections.
At a future council meeting, the city council will decide if the flag ordinance should be enforced.
