RALEIGH, N.C. — Reynolds Coliseum, the venue for 10 commencement ceremonies this weekend, does not have air conditioning, meaning students and their families will need to find ways to beat the heat.

Two weeks ago, Southeast Raleigh High School held its graduation ceremony at the coliseum. Nine people were treated for heat-related problems.

In years past, the ceremonies have been held at the Raleigh Convention Center. However, the facility was imploded to make way for a new convention center in 2008.

District leaders considered Dorton Arena, but traffic from shoppers from the nearby flea market was a concern. The RBC Center was another possible venue, but the hockey playoffs made it difficult to guarantee specific dates.

North Carolina State University officials said they will be using more fans. They will also sell water to those who attend the ceremonies.
