HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — A Harnett County community is helping a former teacher left wheelchair bound by stray bullets.

Cynthia Patterson was grading papers in bed on Oct. 10, 2005, when bullets tore into her home in October. She was hit and paralyzed from the waist down.

On Saturday, friends and family held this fundraiser to help Patterson. She's in need of a motorized van, a wheelchair and other equipment to function as a paraplegic.

Harnett County authorities have arrested seven suspects in the case.
