Three Seriously Injured In Johnston County Wreck

Posted Updated

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Three people were seriously injured Monday in a car wreck in Johnston County.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Holly Grey, 17, of Garner, lost control of the Chevrolet Cavalier convertible she was driving, drove into a ditch, overturned and struck a tree on Smith Road near the N.C. Highway 210 intersection.

The impact of the crash threw two passenger, Haywood Ruffin, 23, and Greg Ruffin, 31, from the car.

All three were taken to WakeMed, where on Monday evening Grey was listed in stable condition, Haywood Ruffin was listed in critical condition and Greg Ruffin was listed in serious condition.

Troopers said speed and inattention were likely factors and that they plan to charge Grey with reckless driving. They did not think alcohol played a factor in the accident.
